Passive Home Ground Breaking B-Line Construction

We Have Been Busy as Bees…

Passive Houses are built 8 to 10 times more airtight than a typical code-level building.

Properly controlling moisture in a Passive House improves air sealing and insulation, which in turn helps control moisture.

  • Dampproofing is a coating, usually asphalt-based, that is either sprayed on or hand applied to the outside of the walls and/or floors to prevent moisture from passing into the interior spaces.
  • A Perimeter Drain, or “Weeping Tile”, is a plastic or PVC perforated pipe, which is installed underground, around the perimeter of a house.
  • Dimpled membranes or “Drain Sheets” are plastic sheets with dimples facing into the wall, creating about a ½ inch gap for drainage and a capillary break.  A drain dimple sheet is applied in front of the wall insulation to provide additional protection.
Bryan Williams, owner of B-Line Services,  is  CPHT (Certifeid Passive House Tradeperson) plus works with EMU Systems (Passive House implementation and compliance experts) on this build.

Using learned knowlede, expert techniques and quality materials is key to a quality Passive House Build.

“Best practices lead to drier, longer lasting buildings. This also includes substantially lower moisture content in the materials once the building is complete compared to industry standards.” – Read more from EMU

What is a Passive House?

German: (Passivhaus)

The energy efficiency in a building, which reduces the building’s ecological footprint.  The focal point of a Passive House is to minimize air leakage from the property.

How is this accomplished?

Passive houses are designed with super-insulation, high-performance windows, an airtight envelope that minimizes energy consumption while providing thermal comfort to its residents.
